Volume 11.2 of Hūlili, edited by Bryan Kamaoli Kuwada, offers seven research articles themed around momona, or abundance. The volume includes new works from established scholars, as well as research from newly minted Native Hawaiian PhDs. Articles in both English and ‘ōlelo Hawai‘i are featured, in fields such as ethnomathematics, epigenetics, sociology, oratory, curriculum development, and more.

This volume also pays tribute to Dr. Richard Kekuni Blaisdell, a Kanaka Maoli leader who epitomizes multidisciplinary thinking and practice. Following the passing of Dr. Blaisdell in 2016, longtime colleagues and ʻohana were asked to contribute recollections and manaʻo based on their pilina with Kekuni. A previously published article by Kekuni, entitled “I Hea nā Kānaka Maoli? Whither the Hawaiians?” is also included. The result is a powerful collection of essays and scholarship honoring not only a great aloha ʻāina, but also the lāhui that Kehuni Blaisdell worked tirelessly to elevate.

Editor Kamaoli Kuwada notes, “Our struggle for ea is also a struggle for momona; we want this abundance for our land and our people.” Hūlili Volume 11.2 adds to this abundance by fostering new connections and shared insights to mobilize greater Hawaiian well-being.
